What is a digipak?
A type of packaging for CD's that typically consists of gatefold paperboard or card stock binding with plasics trays to hold the CD
What are the conventions of a digipak?
The front of the digipak typically includes the title of the album along with the name of the band or artist. Also and image of the artist or an image they have chosen to represent the album. In addition some digipaks include the lyrics and 'Thank You's'. Audience's and fans often want to know the lyrics so they can sing along to their favourite songs. The Thank You pages also make the booklet more personal it's shows who the band are thankful too and who's helped them along their journey.Digipaks also always include the track list on the back to make the audience aware of the names and what order they will come in. They also show the record company and show who's released the album and got copyright of the album. Also on the back is the barcode obviously and often a scan code relating to either a website or social media
How does a digipak benefit the artist?
A digipak embodies the artitst image therefore they can communicate this with their target audience easily. It is a promotional stratergy to help bring awareness to the artist encouraging consumers to buy thier album or single.

The artist can be seen lying on a bed of roses, red roses are a classic symbol for love, romance and passion implying the themes running through her songs such as 'california king bed'.Red and pink tones dominate the images this gives a feminine, soft and girly feel which is again highlighted by her outfit: a nude dress almost similar to a wedding dress.
The close up shop empahsises Rihannas's dramaztic red lips and long eyelashes make her seem highly sexualised as this type of makeup is usually thought to be flirtacious and seductive.Again this suggest she is a Rnb/pop artist because it is typical of these genres to explore sex and love in their songs this is clearly seen on her album in the song S&M
The main image shows her to be looking down instead of making direct eye contact and away from the camera this could suggest that she is feeling insecure and has been hurt and this idea is displayed in the song 'complicated' or the closed eyes can suggest she is hiding a secret
