Intertextuality is when you shape a text's meaning by using another text, this includes allusion, quotation, calque, plagiarism, translation,pastiche and parody

'Material Girl' Madonna

Madonna's music video for material girl (1985) had clear intertextual references to the film Gentlemen prefer blondes starring Marilyn Monroe (1953). By mimicking bits of this iconic scene, Madonna creates nostalgia for the audience. As well as that by linking the two together it highlights the themes of femininity and sexuality, that are explored in diamonds are a girls bestfriend, within Madonna's song

'Man i feel like a women' Shania Twain

Robert Palmer's ' Addicted to love' (1986) music video was copied in Shania Twain's music video for ' Man i feel like a woman' (1999). By imitating Robert Palmer's music video but reversing the male and female roles in the music videoit sent out a controversial message arguably one of feminist notions linking to the songs lyrics.
